Giving Thought to Christmas With Kids

It’s Christmas Eve.

Our presents are bought and wrapped.  Favorite Christmas movies have been watched.  The Annual Ugly Christmas Sweater Party has been attended. Baking is completed.  We’ll go to church this afternoon, and then the fun and craziness of various family celebrations begins and doesn’t end til January.

This year, we’ve given some thought to how we want the Christmas season to look for our kids.  Next Christmas will be very different!  How are we going to manage all of our family celebrations around nap times?  What traditions do we want to continue, and what traditions do we want to start?  Do we “do” Santa or not “do” Santa?  How do we take the focus off the presents and put it on what’s really important?

I don’t have the answers; I’m sure we’ll figure it out as we go along.  But I do know that I don’t want Christmas time to be the only time we count our blessings.  What works for your families?

It hasn’t happened yet, but I always thought it would be cool one year to donate to various causes instead of exchanging presents, then at the family christmas dinner share a little bit about the cause you picked. I can dream can’t I?
